Popcorn Press, publishers of Vampyr Verse, The Hungry Dead, and Halloween Haiku, are beginning work on Cthulhu Haiku & Other Mythos Madness an anthology of Lovecraftian poetry and flash fiction!
Which brings us to you. We’re making a call for submissions and holding a free drawing.
SUBMISSIONS
What We’re Looking For
Poetry: We’re open to anything related to H.P. Lovecraft‘s mythos. That having been said, haiku and related forms like senryu, tanka, lunes, and Korean sijo are especially welcome. Sonnet variations and other formal poems are also encouraged. Vers libre will also be considered. We further encourage 100-word prose poems and one- to two-stanza alphabetic morph rhyme.
Fiction: Anything 1,000 words or less is solicited. Stories can feature plot, mood, or both.
Read “The GUP Method for Creative Writing” for further insight into the sort of writing that excites us.
Previously published work is welcome, as are multiple submissions. We cannot, however, accept submissions currently being considered elsewhere (i.e. “simultaneous submissions”).
Rights
Each submissions remains the copyrighted property of its author. Submission grants Popcorn Press the right to publish the work in the Cthulhu Haiku & Other Mythos Madness anthology, in print and electronic form, in perpetuity.
How to Submit
Send your work in the body of an email message to contact at popcornpress dot com, with “Cthulhu Haiku Submission” in the Subject line.
Deadline
At present, a publication date is being worked out, so there is no deadline currently. Still, early submissions will have a slight edge over later ones, so send now.
Remuneration
We’re printing most poems two to a page, to provide adequate white space around each without wasting too many trees. Fiction averages 300-350 words per page. With that in mind…
• All contributors receive a copy of the book.
• For every full page your work fills, you’ll earn $1.00. (And we round up in your favor.)
• Contributors also receive “Author” status at PopcornPress.com, for a 40 percent discount on all future purchases. (Not only is that a good way to stock up on cheap gifts for family and friends, it’s also a potential money-maker if you resell titles at conventions, author signings, and other public appearances.)
• Everyone who submits a poem or story for consideration is also entered into the drawing, in which we’re giving away five free copies!
DRAWING
We’ll be holding a drawing on publication to give away five free copies of the print book to people who help spread the word about the project.
• Twitter users who ReTweet any post by @CthulhuHaiku will automatically be entered. Each post ReTweeted increases your chances of winning.
• Anyone who posts an announcement advertising this project on a blog or social media page (Facebook, MySpace, etc.) and sends an email to contact at popcornpress dot com with a link to that post will also be entered into the drawing.
QUESTIONS?
